Washington, DC

The Vote16DC campaign coalition made significant progress toward lowering the voting age in 2018. Local advocates built a coalition and advocated Youth Vote Amendment Act of 2018, which would have lowered the voting age to 16 for all D.C. elections. The bill was initially supported by 8 of the 13 DC council members before ultimately being tabled before a vote. The campaign also brought the issue into mainstream, local political discourse with substantial media attention. Leaders are currently exploring opportunities for future advocacy. Interested in getting involved in a future effort in DC? Reach out to bklugman@generationcitizen.org.
