2020 Vote16SF Campaign Earns Over 205,000 Votes, Finishes at 49.2%

The Vote16SF campaign, which was on the ballot as Prop G in 2020, earned more than 205,000 votes in November to finish at 49.2%, barely shy of the threshold needed to pass. Despite the close defeat on the ballot, this was a tremendous accomplishment for a youth-led campaign that took place amid a pandemic. This result represents an increase in support compared to when this question was first on the ballot in San Francisco in 2016, and shows that public opinion can shift with meaningful campaign efforts. Vote16SF is primed to win on the ballot in the future, and provides useful lessons for campaigns in other cities around the country to follow. Read the campaign’s press release for more information.
