VOTE16 LEGISLATION INTRODUCED IN CONGRESS

On February 4, legislation was introduced in Congress proposing a Constitutional Amendment to lower the voting age to 16 nationwide. The legislation, H.J.Res.23, was introduced by Rep. Grace Meng of New York, along with 17 original co-sponsors. When the same legislation was introduced in the previous congressional session, it had one original co-sponsor on the day of introduction and picked up a total of nine throughout the session.

It is amazing to see so many members of Congress signal their support for Vote16 today, including long-time champions like Rep. Ayanna Pressley (MA). The bill is also backed by an impressive list of organizations, including Generation Citizen, GenVote, and Rock the Vote.
