Young people from Western Massachusetts, working as Vote16 Hilltowns, successfully introduced article to lower the voting age to 16 in the towns of Ashfield, Shelburne, and Wendell in 2017. Voters in each town voted in favor of the change at town meetings. Now, Massachusetts law requires the state legislature to pass bills giving the towns the authority to implement a lower voting age. Bills have been introduced by each town’s representatives, and youth leaders are working hard to secure their passage. Learn more at Vote16 Hilltowns.
