Expanding Voting Rights in the Nation’s Capital

Members of the organization Our C.A.P.S. worked with City Council Member Charles Allen to introduce a bill in November 2015 to lower the voting age to 16 for elections in Washington, D.C. A strong #16toVote coalition came together to lead organizing efforts to advance the bill. The next step is for the the Committee on the Judiciary to schedule a hearing on the bill, but this likely won’t happen by the end of the current council session. We expect the bill to be reintroduced in early 2017, and young people in DC are ready to mobilize to show their support.
